The Oral History Collection of the CJHS is supported by funds trom the annual proceeds of The Benjamin Balshone Oral History Endowment Fund of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society, The Robert A. Glick Testamentary Endowment Fund of the Columbus Jewish Foundation, The Edward Schlezinger Fund of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society, and a special one-time gift from Betty & Herbert Schiff.

You can support the CJHS Oral History Project:  Become a member of the Society; volunteer as an Oral History Interviewer, Editor, or Transcriber.

The CJHS oral history committee is chaired by Helena Schlam. The goals of the oral history program are

  1. To collect on audio tape, the histories of persons from all walks of life who have firsthand knowledge of the Jewish experience in the Columbus Metropolitan area and central Ohio.
  2. To interview, transcribe, catalogue, and index the recorded tapes for storage in the Columbus Jewish Historical Society Archives. These interviews will be accessible to family members, for scholarly research, and educational programming.
  3. To use oral history in the educational, programming, publications, and other local Jewish history activities for the benefit of the Columbus Jewish community
