THE STORY OF I.H. SCHLEZINGER,
INC.
This is the story of an innovative company dealing in
and processing scrap metal since 1915. Included are family facts as well as photos of
family and business activities. The I.H. Schlezinger Company was one of the first in the
nation to scrap or recycle automobile metals. It was sold in 1980 to Fortune 500 Company
Worthington Industries. The author provides an inside view to a fascinating company. He
writes, "It takes years and years to build a reputation in the scrap metal business
and five minutes to ruin it - Our most important asset is our people." The scrap
business was built by more than a few immigrant Jews. Ed Schlezinger shows us how it was
done. |

JEWS AND JUDAISM IN A MIDWESTERN
COMMUNITY: COLUMBUS, OHIO 1840-1975
This statistical and anecdotal history of the Jewish
community in Columbus, Ohio spans the years between 1840 and 1975. Photos of artifacts
such as steerage receipts, old synagogue buildings, and confirmation classes at the turn
of the century bring this community to life. Tables and charts provide such information as
class rosters for elementary schools in the first decades of the century as well as early
Bexley residents in 1924. The author covers institutional life such as synagogues and
federated philanthropy as well as social aspects such as city and country clubs and
activities. |
